ॐ गं गणपतये नम:।

अक्षरं परमं ब्रह्म ज्योतीरूपं सनातनम्।

निराकारं स्वेच्छामयमनन्तजम्॥

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।

मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भुर्मा ते संगोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥

प्रचेतसोSहं दशमः पुत्रो राघवनन्दन। 

महर्षि बाल्मीकि प्रचेता के पुत्र थे।

[रामायण 7.96.19-7.93.17] और [अध्यात्म रामायण 7.7.31] 

"प्रचेतसं वसिष्ठं भृगुं नारदमेव च" 

वे प्रेचता वसिष्ठ, नारद, पुलस्त्य, कवि आदि के भाई थे।[मनुस्मृति 1.35]
जन्मांतर में वे व्याध थे।[स्कन्द पुराण वैशाखमाहात्म्य]
व्याध जन्म से पूर्व वे स्तम्भ नाम के श्री वत्स गोत्रीय ब्राह्मण थे। व्याध जन्म में शृंग ऋषि के सत्संग से राम नाम के जप से, वे दूसरे जन्म में अग्नि शर्मा (रत्नाकर) हुए। वहाँ भी व्याधों के संङ्ग से कुछ दिन प्राक्तन (पूर्व संस्कार) संस्कार वश व्याध कर्म करने लगे।
सप्त ऋषियों के सतसङ्ग से मरा-मरा जपकर, बाँबी से ढँक जाने के कारण वाल्मीक नाम से विख्यात हुए और वाल्मीक रामायण की रचना की।[स्कन्द पुराण 381, 709, 1024, अद्यात्म रामायण 2.6.64-92; आनन्द रामायण राज्य काण्ड 14.21-49, भविष्य पुराण प्रतिसर्ग 4.10]

Kak Bhushundi narrated this story to the saints, sages, Rishi and Muni,  at Shuk Tal, near Meerut in UP-INDIA. He told that all these events were seen by him, happening six times earlier as well, in different Manvantr. He specifically said that the cosmic events are cyclical in nature. In fact, all the events were forecasts, made by Mahrishi Balmiki much before the advent, in the from of Balmiki Ramayan (arrival-incarnation of Bhagwan Shri Ram). Brahma Ji directed Vashishth Rishi not to reject the embodiment, since he was assigned the task of educating-enlightenment of the incarnation.

MAHRISHI BALMIKI ASHRAM :: Balmiki Ashram is located on the banks of river Hindan river, on the main Baghpat-Meerut highway at a distance of 25 km from Baghpat and 29 km from  Meerut-UP, INDIA. Its well known for Panch Mukhi (five facets) Shiv Ling.  Several bricks bearing religious imprints have been found around the ashram. A legend says  that this place is was protected by five Devs (deities, demigods). Main deity is located at the center of the Ashram while the remaining four acquired the four directions round the corners.

A fair is organised on the banks of the river, within the compound of the Ashram to  marks the birth of Luv & Kush and to facilitate Mahrishi Balmiki. One more week long festival is organised during the month of Falgun which starts on the auspicious occasion of  Maha Shiv Ratri.

काक भुशुण्डी जी ने इस पावन कथा को ऋषि-मुनियों को शुक ताल पर बारम्बार सुनाया था। उन्होंने यह सब घटना क्रम पहले भी छः कल्पों-मन्वन्तरों में देखा था और इस बात की परीक्षा भी ली थी कि भगवान् विष्णु ने ही साक्षात रामावतार ग्रहण किया था। उन्होंने यह भी स्पष्ट किया कि इस प्रकार का घटनाक्रम माला के घूमते हुए बीजों-मनकों की तरह पुनः-पुनः घटित होता रहता है। जब वशिष्ठ ऋषि ने अपने काया-कलेवर से मुक्ति की प्राप्ति चाहि तो उन्हें ब्रह्मा जी ने उन्हें यह कहकर रोका कि अभी उनका दायित्व शेष है और उन्हें अपने अवतार काल में भगवान् राम के गुरु का पदभार ग्रहण करना है।
